Investing in infrastructure is a topic we’ve been hearing a lot about lately. As leaders continue to debate plans for modernizing our nation’s infrastructure, Starkville Utilities is moving forward on several infrastructure projects to better serve our customers and the city of Starkville.
That’s because planning for the future is an important part of what we do. Infrastructure investments are a key driver of Starkville Utilities’ Future FOCUS initiative to ensure that customers are served with safe, reliable, affordable utilities now and well into the future.
Our five-year capital improvement plan to upgrade sewer infrastructure is moving forward on budget and on schedule and involves cost-effective uses of technology, such as “rehab in place,” to minimize impacts on customers. We’re also in the process of upgrading the city’s waste water treatment plant with innovative dewatering technology.
On the electrical side, our new southwest substation represents an exciting milestone in our efforts to modernize and improve Starkville’s electrical distribution system. And in April, we became the first municipal utility in Mississippi to join TVA’s Green Invest solar program, which will provide a local, clean and cost-effective renewable energy option for customers.
Those are just a few examples of the steps we’re taking to modernize and enhance Starkville’s utility services. Future FOCUS is about making the right decisions today that will benefit our customers, our community and the environment for generations to come. It’s a commitment that we take seriously.
