In the event of a catastrophic water leak on the customer’s property (beyond the point of delivery), the customer may request, in writing, an adjustment to water and/or sewer charges for the billing period (s) covering the leak in accordance with Appendix A of the Starkville Utilities Rules and Regulations, Leak Adjustment Policy. A full copy of the policy can be found at www.starkvilleutilities.com.

Step 1: Repair the leak. Be sure to keep the maintenance repair invoice or work order to be submitted later.

Step 2: Complete the Water Leak Adjustment Form.
If you have a landlord, they must also sign it as part of the application. You must attach the invoice, material receipt or work order for the plumbing repair work.

Step 3: Pay the full electric and sanitation portions of the bill along with the average water and sewer bill. For all months after the water leak adjustment is applied for, the entire bill must be paid.

Step 4: Starkville Utilities will hold the adjustment form for two billing cycles to ensure the repair is complete and the usage returns to normal.

Step 5: After the usage returns to normal, Starkville Utilities will calculate the water leak adjustment credit per the Board approved policy and formula. Please note that the formula returns a portion of the usage, never the full amount.

Step 6: Once the amount is calculated, we will contact you by phone number or email to let you know of the amount adjusted and the amount remaining to be paid. Any outstanding balance is due to avoid disconnection of services.
